LAWN were outclassed by Regional Division Two leaders Team Bath 49-24 at the weekend in spite of strong performances in two quarters.

Lawn matched Bath goal-for-goal in the early stages with superb shooting coming from goal shooter Vicky Badminton.

But Bath eventually took control and ended the quarter three goals in front.

Bath settled quicker in the next two periods and managed to extend their lead to 23 goals going into the last period.

Several changes were then made by Lawn and they pushed Bath much closer in the last quarter, losing by just two goals in that section.

Meanwhile, Moredon played out a tight game against tough Bournemouth opposition.

Moredon were ahead by two after the first quarter but Bournemouth got in to their stride in the second.

Moredon got within two goals in the last quarter but the advantage stretched and they were eventually defeated by four goals.

In Swindon Division One, Abbey Meads A extended their run of wins on Saturday after beating Moredon A 44-32.

Hot on their heels are Lawn A, who beat Pinehurst A 25-15 in a relatively low-scoring game.

Title contenders Raychem A and Park A also secured wins over the weekend, keeping the top spots close approaching the half way stage.

In Division Two, league leaders Burmah A continued their unbeaten run by overcoming Lawn C 39-29.

Second-placed Lawn B lost out to Raychem B 46-37 and third-placed Ferndale A were lost 30-28 to Park B.

Division Three saw the second and third-placed teams take comfortable victories.

Abbey Meads B annihilated Park C 67-9 and Burmah B battered Highworth D 36-7.

Meanwhile, England Under 21 coach Jess Garland visited Next Generation Gym recently to hold a session aimed at netball coaches around Swindon.

She told the coaches how she would set up a training session for the national squad, and then delivered the session to 20 of Swindon’s finest netballers.

She said: “It’s great to talk to other coaches and also to see the talent that we have to offer in the south west.”

Lorraine Bulpitt, head coach at Abbey Meads Netball Club, said: “It was good to see that we are doing some things right at our club, but I have taken away some good ideas that will definitely help improve my sessions.”

The Corporate Netball League play-offs for positions will take place on Tuesday, December 8 at the Dorcan Dome (6pm).

The battle for first will be fought between Swindon Borough Council and Arval, while third spot will be up for grabs when the Defence Academy take on Nationwide.
