TWO local clubs, Westlecot and Wootton Bassett, feature prominently in the men’s county semi-finals in the national fours and triples championships being staged at Chippenham Town tomorrow.
A place in the county final is on offer to all four winners, along with the opportunity to represent Wiltshire at Worthing in the National Championships.
The draw for the afternoon triples semi-finals (2pm) has produced two shoot-outs between trios from Wootton Bassett and Westlecot.
In the first, Mike Titcombe Senior’s Westlecot triple, who produced the shock result in the quarter-finals by ousting Holt, the 2010 winners and last year’s beaten finalists, 18-16 face Gary Morphet’s Bassett trio - who were equally impressive when eliminating Mel Biggs’ 2011 championship winning team 19-17 in the quarter-finals.
The other triples semi-final sees England Under 25 team manager Hedley Bowen skip his Bassett team against a powerful Westlecot trio of Middleton Cup players - Mike Jackson (skip), Graham Hatherall (two) and Michael Richards (lead).
Jackson and Hatherall also feature in one of the morning semi-finals at Chippenham Town in the fours championship.
They are members of Mel Biggs’ vastly experienced rink, along with Ian Jefferies, that face a youthful Alderbury quartet of county under 25 players skipped by Nick Revell.
The other semi-final sees a foursome from hosts Chippenham Town meet Graham Shadwell’s rink from Spencer Moulton.
