WILTSHIRE launched a magnificent comeback to draw their Channel League clash with Gloucestershire at Brickhampton Court Golf Club.

Well-beaten by Cornwall in their opening match, Wiltshire looked on course for another heavy defeat when they trailed 4.5-0.5 after the morning foursomes.

Only the duo of Robbie Busher (Salisbury & South Wilts) and Ben Amor (Marlborough) registered, halving their match with Tyler Hogerty and James Dobbs, while none of the other matches went the distance.

But in a complete turnaround, Wiltshire won the afternoon singles 7-3 to ensure honours ended even.

Amor was six-under after 11 holes and eventually won his match with Charlie McLean by one hole, some measure of revenge for the Wiltshire player who had finished second behind McLean in the Burnham Salver a day earlier.

Josh Loughrey (Wrag Barn) saw off Nick Day by the same score.

Further wins from Garry Slade (Bowood), Ben Hayward, Jason Beint, Paul Green and Corey Shepherd restored parity for the visiting side.

Wiltshire host Somerset at Cumberwell Park GC (Bradford on Avon) in their next Channel League match on July 14.

Meanwhile, Ben Loughrey - the brother of Josh - was in action at the Lytham Trophy recently.

The Wrag Barn youngster finished an impressive 24th in a 144-strong field. He was able to achieve that courtesy of scores of 74, 73, 76 and 77, which put him 20-over-par for the tournament.

The event was won by Finland’s Albert Eckhardt on seven-over.
