SWINDON’S David Howell will look to bounce back from a disappointing weekend in Switzerland when he tees off in the KLM Open in the Netherlands today.

The Broome Manor pro had been on a good run of form and carded his best finish of the season in Italy last month.

However the Wiltshireman suffered a blip at the Omega Masters in Switzerland as he struggled around the Crans-sur-Sierre course and finished in tied 47th.

Howell had started the weekend brightly scoring five-under-par in his opening nine-holes but failed to keep up the form and finished 13 shots off the eventual winner American David Lipsky.

Howell saw his KLM Open title challenge derail in a similarly spectacular fashion last year and will be hoping that it will not be a repeat performance this time around at a course he holds fondly.

“My confidence has been buoyed by the last few weeks so I’m looking forward to it. I like the course in the Netherlands - it’s a good links course,” said Howell.

The 39-year-old, who was dogged by injuries last year, started well at the Kennemer Golf & Country Club with a first-round five-under-par score and was still in the hunt after day two after carding a level-par 70.

A four-over-par round on the Saturday, which included a triple bogey, followed by a one-over-par final round saw Howell slip down the leaderboard.

The 39-year-old is still in a good position to play at the season-ending Race To Dubai event, currently sitting in 48th place in the order of merit.

Howell tees off today at 1.35pm UK time alongside Jose Maria Olazabal and Tommy Fleetwood and the Swindon Advertiser will be following his progress throughout the week.
