TWENTY Broome Manor juniors battled it out over the half term week in a Ryder Cup style tournament.

The event, which was sponsored by the club’s professional Lee Hayward, was named the Tiger Cup. On day one, the format was foursomes and four ball better balls with USA taking on Europe with two teams of 10 on the nine-hole course.

The second day of the tournament was the singles style format.

Going into day two, Europe were winning by one point 5½-4½.

USA started the singles by winning the first point to level things up but it was Europe that held their nerve as eight-year-old Lewy Hayward holed the winning putt on the seventh hole to make it 11-9 and retain the Tiger Cup for the European team.

Hayward said: “This was an amazing event for all involved, the support from the parents, families and players made this event a special one for me and the Golf club.

“I can proudly say that this was one of the most exciting, well supported junior events I have been involved in.

“All players showed good etiquette and handled themselves in a professional manner and should be very proud of their achievements.”
