SWINDON’S David Howell lost pace with the leaders of the Africa Open on day three of the tournament.

Howell recovered from a bad start to record a one under par round in East London to head into the final day just in the top ten with a score of eight under par.

Despite another below par round in South Africa Howell lost ground to the on-course leader Trevor Fisher Jnr who stormed into the lead with an eight under par round, after 17 holes, to overtake overnight leader Matt Ford.

The Broome Manor pro, who started five shots off the lead, got off to the worst possible start as he bogeyed the par five first but recovered with back-to-back birdies on the second and third to put him back on course to challenge for the lead.

A birdie on the par four 16th looked to put Howell back in contention but he followed it up with a bogey on the par-three 17th to finish seven shots off the lead.
