SWINDON’S David Howell may have completed his second under par round of the week at the Turkish Airlines Open but he still remains off the pace.

The 40-year-old followed up his round of 70 yesterday with an equally solid 69 on day two at the Montgomerie Maxx Royal.

Like yesterday, Howell got off to the perfect start with a birdie - this time starting on the par-five first.

That was followed up by another shot under par on the par-five fourth to see him go out in 33.

Howell mirrored his start on the back nine from day one, where he started his first round, with back-to-back birdies on the 10th and 11th holes.

However, the Broome Manor pro followed that up with a dropped shot on the par-four 12th to record his only blemish of the day.

Despite Howell finishing on an overall score of five under par, he remains nine shots off the clubhouse leader, Jaco Van Zyl, with the South African finishing on 14-under-par following his impressive opening round of 61.
