DAVID Howell made the cut at the Scottish Open after carding a second successive par round at Castle Stuart today.

After producing a round 72 on the opening day of competition in Inverness on Thursday, Howell repeated the trick once again, with the 41-year-old Swindon star posting another steady score to maintain his interest in the pre-Open Championship event.

He dropped four shots during his front nine but the 41-year-old Swindon star recovered to ensure his progress into the weekend’s final days.

The Broome Manor pro bogeyed the par-four first but cut the deficit straight away by birdying the second hole.

However, Howell got himself into trouble on the par-five sixth hole, leaving himself with work to do after slumping to a double bogey, and he dropped another shot on the ninth.

But the two-time Ryder Cup winner managed to steady the ship from there on out, parring the next four holes and then recording birdies on the 14th and 16th to get himself back on the path to progress.

And on the par-five 18th, Howell racked up another birdie – his third in five holes – to drag himself back to par.

Danny Lee, the European Tour’s second-youngest winner, looked to set to hold the overnight lead on seven-under but he was pipped to top spot by Sweden’s Alex Noren, who stands at eight-under overall.
