DAVID Howell will hope his disappointing performance at the Paul Lawrie Match Play at the start of the month was just a blip as he continues his search to find form at the Czech Masters.

The 2016 season has been a frustrating one so far for the 41-year-old, who has suffered with an ongoing foot injury, but he will hope to get back on track at the Albatross Golf Resort.

Howell was last in action earlier this month, when he was involve in the event hosted by former Open champion Lawrie but that didn’t go as he’d hoped as he crashed out to home player Richie Ramsey in the first round.

The two-time Ryder Cup star damaged his hopes for success early on when he lost four of the opening seven holes to the Scot.

However, Howell did manage to cut Ramsey’s lead to two holes when he birdied the ninth, but his opponent then restored his advantage after responding with a birdie at the 13th.

The Swindon star surged back into contention after scoring two birdies in a row, reducing Ramsey’s lead to a single hole.

Sadly it was too little too late and that was as close as he could get to his opponent when he could only the final three, which meant Ramsey was victorious at Archerfield.

That result could be considered a slight shock given Howell was a semi-finalist in the same event a year earlier.

In addition, he would also have enjoyed a boost in confidence after recording a solid 22nd place finish at the Open Championship three weeks earlier.

Howell will be hoping to put his inconsistencies behind him when he tees off at 12.15 BST in Prague alongside American John Daly and home player Filip Mruzek.
