STEVE Robertson reigned in the wet to lift the 32nd Hills Wiltshire Professionals Golf Championship at Marlborough Golf Club on Tuesday last week.
Robertson, who previously lifted the title in 1994 and 2001, carded a two-over-par total of 146 to finish a shot clear of the 22-strong field.
The wet conditions proved challenging for the 36-hole event, and after the morning round, Iain Ferrie (West Wilts GC) and Broome Manor’s Robertson from held the joint lead on level par.
The start of the second round saw the weather conditions slightly improve, but the rain returned and the late afternoon conditions deteriorated further with wind speed picking up.
Robertson though managed to hold his form and finished ahead of North Wilts’ Barry Forster and Ferrie, who ended three over. Fourth place went to Simon Amor, of the host club on four-over.
Seven-time winner David Hutton, of Hamptworth Golf Club, was five-over with Graham Laing (North Wilts, seven-over), Cumberwell Park’s Ben Lloyd (eight-over) and Upavon’s Dan Carter (nine-over) completing the top finishers.
