SWINDON were made to pay for their mistakes as they led three times before falling 4-3 at Chippenham.

Despite having a few leagues in the the pyramid on high flying Central 1 side Chippenham, their opponents provided tough to beat and boast an unbeaten home record.

Swindon started well, with Henry Cheney making a decisive return to the side. His early strike was initially stopped before Phil Scarisbrick nipped in and dinked the ball over the stricken keeper on the reverse to make it 1-0.

Chippenham managed an equaliser, with midfield runners finding space, before feeding their striker who finished emphatically.

Despite the setback, Swindon rallied. Lewis Dyer drove out from the back before feeding Luke Cejer, who rode a robust challenge before setting up Cheney. Despite a bobbling ball, Cheney unleashed a rocket that the Chippenham keeper had no chance with and saw Swindon’s lead restored.

In the dying moments of the half the visitors were pegged back again. Central defender Thomas Hunt made a costly error that led to a short corner. The drag flick that followed was after the whistle for the end of the half, so Swindon needed only to clear it. Unfortunately, they did not, and the half ended 2-2.

After the interval Swindon again went in search of another lead.

Halfway through the half, Jim Towers drove up the middle of the pitch before sliding the ball right on the reverse to the rampaging Chris Parsons. As he entered the circle, Parsons composed himself before playing in Dyer, who managed to trickle the ball into the bottom corner.

Within minutes the score was even again, as Swindon conceded another short corner, which was slipped left. Towers closed the ball down but did not make a strong enough challenge and the ball found its way into the back of the net.

The game continued to be played at a frantic pace. Sadly, even though they battled well and created a few half chances, it was a Swindon mistake that led to the Chippenham winner late on.
