Swindon men’s first team eased to a 6-2 success over Yate in Conference North.

Playing their last home league match of the season, Swindon were missing Jim Towers due to injury but were hoping their impressive winning run would continue.

They came into the game having only been beaten once in their last nine matches.

Henry Cheney started in attack looking to build on his hat-trick against Devizes last week, and it wasn’t long before he was in goal scoring action again.

By half-time Cheney had already recorded a second successive treble, with Phil Scarisbrick adding another to see Swindon 4-0 up at the break.

The second half started with the visitors coming at Swindon and for the first time in recent weeks the defence was under severe pressure.

They conceded twice inside the first 10 minutes of the half but it didn’t take long for Swindon to get back into the game.

Hard work from Chris Parsons in midfield and James Lewis helped support Cheney, who scored another goal mid way through the half to put Swindon 5-2 up.

The nerves were now settled and Swindon got back into the free flowing hockey to finish the last home match of the season with a late goal for captain Luke Cejer to seal the win for the Wiltshire side.

The last game of the season sees Swindon travel to Lydney, with them looking to avenge a 2-1 home defeat by the Gloucestershire team in December.

THE ladies got back to free scoring form with a 7-0 win over Swanage and Wareham.

Swindon dominated the first half possession but only managed a single goal from Hannah Lewis after creating a string of chances.

In the second half, Swindon started strongly, forcing a penalty stroke which teenager Chloe Lewis calmly slotted into the net.

Goals came regularly, with Chloe Lewis adding a second and Rachel King, Linda Brouwers and veteran Gemma Scrase all converting their chances.

In the last moments of the game, Swindon captain Vicky Stokes pounced on a rebound to score her first and Swindon’s seventh goal.

After the game, the captain praised the team.

Stokes said: “We now know what we need to do - it’s just a case of being consistent each week.”
