SWINDON picked up their third win of the season as they recorded an emphatic 9-2 victory over Yate The visitors are yet to record a point this term, but despite the scoreline, the first half was fairly close.

Early goals from Jim Towers, Tom Goldsmith and Thomas Lentschner helped to put Swindon into the lead, with two sloppy Yate goals coming in between.

Goldsmith settled the nerves with his second of the game and Swindon’s fourth before half time.

Captain Luke Cejer was relatively happy with the first half performance but indicated that two words were key to the second half performance: composure and legs.

Swindon put a fairly ragged Yate to the sword in the second half, with a further five goals. Lentschner got his second, with Nathan Richards and Phil Scarisbrick notching a brace each.

Pete Gilbert’s creative attacking play from deep on the left was particularly impressive, the teenager set up numerous opportunities for his forwards.

Of the result, which sees Swindon in fourth after five games, captain Cejer said: “It was a good result, the second half display was particularly good.

“Next week will be a tougher test, the sort of match which will decide where we end up come the end of the season.”

Swindon travel to Firebrands A on Saturday in another must win clash.
