SWINDON returned to winning ways in the West Clubs League Premier Division 2A with a 3-1 victory over Cheltenham on Saturday.

From the off Swindon were the superior team, creating lots of attacking chances and after 18 minutes the pressure paid off as they were awarded a short corner which was struck home by Chloe Lewis.

Coach Kerry Baker’s half-time talk ensured that Swindon came out strongly and 10 minutes in, Mary Goldsmith found a path through to Linda Brouwers.

She passed it on to Adriana Boullosa, who found Lewis before the ball went to Gemma Scrase, who expertly reversed the ball into the net.

Minutes later, Scrase took the ball into the D and notched her second before Cheltenham replied late on.

Swindon’s men are also in second place in their division - GoCrea8 League Conference North - and continued their challenge with a 3-2 win at Bristol and West.

The visitors’ first-half performance paved the way for victory, Tom Wickens opening the scoring after a short corner was returned to him.

Bristol and West rallied but Swindon then stepped up a gear.

A well-worked move saw Thomas Lentschner square for a diving Wickens to guide home.

Henry Cheney then got a goal of his own from a powerful straight strike and, despite a sloppy second half, Swindon held on.
