SAM Bullas says Swindon’s recent run of form has come about because the team is now working together as a proper unit.

Wildcats only once notched back-to-back victories in the EPL before December but within that month the Link Centre side clocked up four straight wins.

The recent record of Ryan Aldridge’s side now stands at 10 points out of a possible 14, with the last two points coming courtesy of a thumping 5-3 comeback victory over joint league leaders Basingstoke on Wednesday.

And forward Bullas, whose side travel to Sheffield and Telford this weekend, reckons this recent resurgence is no accident.

“Everyone struggles at the start of the year with bonding with linemates, but we’ve really come into our own now,” he said.

“We’ve found where we want to be and we’re starting to play like we should.

“At the start of the year you have new players in but we’re through Christmas now and we’re more than bonded.

“It’s nice to get all your players in, get settled and used to each other because everyone is different.”

Bullas says he has ‘100 per cent’ targeted maximum points from the games against the Tigers and the Steeldogs, but warned the two lowest-ranked teams in the league should not be taken lightly.

“Telford and Sheffield are both below us and we’ve got to be winning those games, although both are on the road, so it’s a hell of a battle,” he said.

“This league is so close, everyone is beating everyone.

“We have to make sure we go in and play our game to our capability.

“You have to be careful of some of these teams, but I think if we play solid defence and keep it tight at the back, we’ve got the goalscorers and we’re going to be absolutely fine.

“We have to keep the momentum going that we had in the third period against Basingstoke.”

Nottingham-born Bullas, who struck the telling fifth goal against the Bison on Wednesday, was impressed with Swindon’s overall performance that night, especially after the hosts went 2-0 down with barely six minutes played.

“They came out strong and we got a bit unlucky with a couple of bad-bounce goals, but we weathered the storm and got into our stride and put good goals away,” he said.

“It was definitely a relief to get the fifth goal.

“When you have a two-goal cushion it takes the pressure off and you can calm down a bit.

“Basingstoke have shown this year that they are a good team, and while we’ve got to be beating the teams below us, we’ve also got to be beating the teams above us and we showed we can do that.

“After a couple of losses it was nice to bounce back, especially against one of the top sides.”
