SWINDON Wildcats’ Canadian D-man Kenton Smith has quashed rumours that he could be joining Elite League outfit Coventry Blaze.

Coventry have lost Mike Egener to injury and that set off the rumour mill over the weekend on social media, with Smith’s name cropping up on several occasions as a possible replacement.

With Egener set to have an operation this week after suffering a broken thumb playing against Nottingham Panthers last Friday, Coventry will be looking to get a new face in as soon as possible.

However Smith, who joined the Wildcats in the summer from Braehead Clan, dismissed talk of a quick return to the Elite League and has stated that he is very happy in Swindon.

“I heard about that, but that’s not true,” he said.

“I can 100 per cent deny that and I really don’t know where that came from.

“I’m dedicated to Swindon and this is where I’m going to stay.

“It’s a great organisation and the boys are unreal, I’ve really enjoyed my time here and we’ve had some big wins on the road, wins we maybe weren’t expected to get.

“It’s been really positive but consistency is key in any league, if you drop a couple of games here and a couple of games there, the next thing you know you’re out of the running.

“We just need to concentrate on things and get those points.”
