THE SWINDON Wildcats are the English Premier League’s form team but head coach Ryan Aldridge is in no doubt that his side face a fearsome challenge as they look to stretch their winning run into the Christmas break.

The Link Centre men have won six matches on the bounce in all competitions, five of which have come in the league, but face the runaway league leaders Telford Tigers this evening (face-off 6pm) in their final outing before a two-week festive break.

Swindon claimed a show-stopping 11-3 victory at Milton Keynes Lightning on Wednesday night and having already beaten Telford twice already this campaign, Aldridge is in no doubt that the EPL title-chasers will be out for revenge.

“We obviously want to keep that winning streak alive. We want a good game on Saturday night and (a win) would be massive,” said the Wildcats chief.

“Obviously, to beat them three times, it would be huge. It’s going to be a tough ask, there’s no doubt about that, but the team is full of confidence at the moment and when they’re playing as good as they did (on Wednesday), I’d take my team over anybody in the league.

“It’s a massive game. Hopefully we have a big crowd. It’s the last one before Christmas and it should be a hell of a game.

“We’ve got to realise that we’ve beaten them twice already and they’re going to be looking for our scalp, especially in our building.

“They’re probably going to want to try and beat us and beat us big. We’ve just got to be ready to work hard and work very smart on Saturday night, and take our chances when they come.”

Swindon shocked the home fans at the Telford Ice Rink by beating the EPL table-toppers 4-0 back on October 1 and despite losing 3-0 on their second visit to Shropshire later that month, the Tigers were tamed once again in November as the Wildcats ran out 4-0 winners on their own ice.
