WHILE we have endured a mixed start to the season there were signs on Sunday of what this team can achieve.

Both Kenton and Stevie are taking on their first coaching roles but I don’t think it is going to be a transitional phase.

I don’t think it is going to take a whole year for us to click. Stevie and Kenton are gaining experience as they go but they are very experienced players who are now plying their trade in coaching as well.

I think we should be looking to get results straight away. Transitional phase is often an excuse for poor performances, which I don’t think we’re in.

In the first game, I think Stevie said himself, he struggled balancing the two and then in the second game he took a back seat and concentrated on net minding, while Kenton Smith took over the coaching.

It seemed to work well because he was able to set the team up in the way he wanted and then Kenton can make any on the fly changes that are needed.

I’m sure Stevie will work out that there is a small compromise to make, because net minding is different to any position because the amount of concentration you require for a long time.

If he is making coaching decisions as well then it is about a balance.

I haven’t noticed much difference from Stevie during the game, because he is a very vocal goalie anyway with a lot of experience of the game.

Maybe the difference I think was that some of us were going to him during the game but I don’t think that will happen too often, especially with Kenton there.

Kenton has hit the ground running as well with the tactics of the team and they are both characters you want to win for, in a similar way to Ryan Aldridge.

It is nice to have a defender in that role as well for me personally, because he picks up things in defence for us.

To get that performance at Telford so early shows that the change has worked quite well already.
