SWINDON Wildcats chief Aaron Nell thought that his side hit the heights on Sunday night as they romped to victory at Telford Tigers in the final match of their regular season campaign.

With the English Premier League play-offs on the horizon, Cats handed themselves a confidence-boosting result as they came from behind to record a 7-4 triumph in Shropshire, finishing off a four-point weekend.

Nell was delighted to see his charges respond to the hardy challenge provided by Telford with a superb team display and believes that Swindon have appropriately set the bar high ahead of the post-season.

“We were very good tonight. It was a really good game and we dominated the game," said the Wildcats head coach.

“Usually when we play these guys; I don’t know what the shots were but it was a lot more even than usual and usually, they’re just shooting, shooting, shooting.

“Even when we went 2-0 down, I wasn’t worried. I could tell that we were playing tonight and it’s good to get a four-point weekend at the end of the year and now we’re ready for those play-offs.

“It was good. It was important that we played a team like Telford, who are good, so that was important.

“You don’t want to play a team at the bottom of the league, especially in the last game of the season, so it was all positive tonight.

“We were excellent and we just need to make sure that we’re the same next week.

“We were good all over the ice. We worked hard, going forward and backward together, and Telford are always going to get chances but we nullified them well and (Jordan) Hedley played well.

“We were just solid for 60 minutes.”

Cats are now waiting to discover who they’ll face home and away in the opening round of the play-offs next weekend.
