IMPORT forward Jonas Höög says he will only be satisfied with fighting it out for silverware as he prepares to start his seventh season with Swindon Wildcats.

The Swede has become something of a permanent fixture on the Cats roster ever since he first arrived at the Link Centre way back in 2010.

Höög’s powerful and incisive attacking play has made him a favourite with the fans in Wiltshire but he says being part of a trophy-winning side is what he really wants to be remembered for.

Ahead of the Wildcats’ opening English Premier League fixture of the season at home to Guildford Flames on Saturday, Höög is confident that Swindon can be at the thick end of the battle for honours this term.

“It’s good to be back. It’s like my second home now I’ve been here so long. I’m pretty excited for the new season coming up and I’m looking forward to the start,” said Höög, who turns 30 next Thursday.

“After Christmas last season I think we played pretty good, so if we can keep going like we ended last year, it should be a really good season.

“I am here to win trophies, that’s the only thing I am here for and I think this squad is capable of doing that.”

Twelve months ago it appeared that Höög’s long association with the Cats had come to an end when he was not re-signed as one of their imports for the 2015/16 campaign.

However, he made a shock return to the club less than two months into the season after summer recruits Miroslav Zalesak and Sami Ryhanen made early departures.

The bond between club and player now appears stronger than ever as back in March the Cats made the unprecedented decision to tie Höög down to a new contract for the coming campaign even before he had headed back home to Sweden in the off-season.

Having come in as a late arrival at the Link Centre for each of the last few seasons, Höög hopes to reap the benefits of extra preparation time with the squad this time around.

“I think it was three years ago the last time I was here at the start of the season so I am pretty excited about this year – it’s good for me,” said Höög.

“It’s definitely better to have that full pre-season with the team and I am here from the start this time so hopefully we can start off the season pretty good.

“We have almost the same squad as last year and we’ve added some really good players so I think it’s looking very good for us and we cannot wait for the first game.”
