WILDCATS head coach Aaron Nell was delighted with his team’s performance following their first win of the season.

Nell, who scored the fifth and final goal in a 5-2 over Manchester Phoenix praised his side for their solid showing at the Link Centre.

“I thought were pretty solid tonight for 60 minutes we played hard I thought we could have scored a couple more, a few bounces didn’t go our way but it was a good performance tonight.” said the Wildcats chief.

The hosts did go behind early on, but they were soon back on track when Tomasz Malasinski grabbed a goal minutes later.

Later in the game Manchester would again draw level again, this time when the Cats were 2-1 up thanks to Max Bribraer’s goal.

But the Swindon side showed good character again to get their noses in front when Ben Davies found the back of the net.

Nell told the Swindon Advertiser the character shown by his team today was more than pleasing.

“We wanted to get the first goal but we didn’t, you’ve got to bounce back from that and we did,” he said.

“For the rest of the game we had it under control, we showed good character after their goals, we got a pretty quick one after their second one.

“We were solid in the third period, we didn’t want to let them back into the game we would have loved to have scored a couple more.

“We didn’t quite take our chances, but that will come, it was a very professional performance, we’ve got to take the positives from it.”

Despite the first win out of the way Nell refuses to be over confident of a win against Hull in their next game, but would like to claim four points this weekend.

“We can never be too confident, Hull are a lot different as a team to how they were last season we’ve got to go there, it’s a tough trip and a tough rink to play in,” added Nell

“If we could get two points it would be a good weekend, we had that blip against Peterborough last week we had three bad minutes against them and it was game over.”
