SWINDON Wildcats player-coach Aaron Nell believes victory over Peterborough Phantoms tonight would send out a strong warning shot to the rest of the English Premier League ahead of the play-offs.

Although the Cats are currently 16 points behind third-placed Peterborough in the table and have little chance of overhauling them by the time the regular season concludes in mid-March, Nell says there is no way his side will be rolling over lightly at the Link Centre this evening.

The contest is a third for Swindon in the space of five days, with both of their weekend fixtures against Milton Keynes Lightning and Bracknell Bees going the full distance and decided by penalty shots, but Nell does not expect fatigue to be an issue.

“The guys have got no choice but to be OK for it. Everyone is used to it, we are used to playing lots of games,” said Nell.

“There will be no resting players like in football and at this time of year, you prefer to play games than practice.

“It will be a good test. Peterborough are a good team, they are a team that we are not going to catch but we want to be playing good games against them because we are going to have to go through them in the play-offs if we want to be successful.

“We are looking forward to it and hopefully we can get another big win on the board.”

Swindon will take to the ice seeking a third win in their last four fixtures and Nell is delighted with the response shown by his side to the hefty defeat they suffered at home to EPL leaders Telford Tigers back on January 28.

“We’ve got five points out of the last six and this time two weeks ago after we’d lost 8-2 to Telford, I don’t think anyone would have expected us to get five out of six,” said Nell.

“We’ve turned it around a little bit and now we need to keep it going.

“We’ve got a big week coming up, three big games that if we play at our best, we can win. If we can do that, it would put us in a really good spot because the two teams above us are in touch and we have got to make sure we keep winning to try to catch them.”
