Swindon Skater Hockey Club's Junior Flames have been invited to take part in this year's Junior European Cup, which is to be held in Essen, Germany, at the end of May.

The invitation was issued by the sport's international governing body, as the result of the withdrawal of one of the two British teams who had qualified at the 2007 British National Championships.

The under 18 Flames, pictured above, who were narrowly beaten in to third place at the nationals, will now represent the UK along with the current British national champions, Norton Cyclones.

The Junior European Cup is the top international club event for the sport, and the Flames will be competing for honours against the top junior teams from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Denmark and the Netherlands.

Club chairman Les Satchell said: "To be invited to compete in this prestigious event is a fantastic honour for the club as a whole and for the junior team in particular.

"Having established themselves as one of the top teams in the country this competition is a great opportunity to see how our juniors measure up on the international stage and the whole club wishes the Junior Flames the best of luck in Germany."
