A VIDEO nasty failed to have the desired effect as the Swindon Wildcats slumped to their seventh straight defeat last night.

Loss number six arrived on home ice on Saturday night as the Cats were beaten 5-2 by Guildford Flames at the Link Centre.

In a bid to right the wrongs player-coach Ryan Aldridge made his faltering squad watch a replay of the game prior to travelling to Romford Raiders.

But the players failed to learn their lesson as they slumped to an 8-3 defeat against a side Swindon had already beaten on three occasions this season.

The loss left Aldridge stunned and accusing some of his roster of simply ‘giving up’.

He said: “We were terrible. In certain respects it was our worst performance of the season.

“Saturday was a big disappointment and we sat down afterwards and watched a video of it to see what we could put right.

“But we just didn’t put it into practice.

“Some of the players just seemed to give up and it’s unacceptable.”

When asked how he would pull the Cats out of their current rut, Aldridge said: “I don’t think I can say anything at this stage - we’ll have to sit down with the players and talk things through and see what happens.”

Aldridge’s men were always playing catch-up last night after going 2-0 down.

They trailed throughout, although goals from Aaron Nell, Raimonds Danilics and Jozef Kohut chipped into the Romford lead and at 5-3 the Cats were still in with a shout before the hosts powered clear.

Saturday night was a third straight defeat at the Link and came despite Matt Foord putting Swindon ahead in the first minute.

Guildford levelled on the powerplay through Lukas Smital before Nell restored the Swindon lead at 7.53.

The Flames then grabbed a shorthanded goal through Gary Clarke and Rob Lamey hit a third before the first break.

Martin Masa scored the only goal in the second frame before the Cats had a goal wiped out for high sticks on 53 minutes.

Ex-Swindon man Ricky Plant added a fifth at 57.07.
