RYAN Aldridge has admitted it’s no fun being a Swindon Wildcat at the moment after a 9-2 mauling in Guildford capped another weekend to forget.

On Saturday, Wildcats surrendered a three-goal lead as they were defeated 5-3 by Sheffield Scimitars at the Link Centre.

The manner of the defeat clearly took its toll and the mental hangover lasted throughout tonight’s one-sided trip to the Flames.

Swindon trailed 5-0 going into the final period, and although Raimonds Danilics and Jozef Kohut bagged consolations, a further four goals were shipped to make it just one overtime win from 11 English Premier League outings.

“The lads just aren’t enjoying their hockey at the moment,” said player-coach Aldridge.

“Their heads are down and we somehow need to find a way to put the smiles back on their faces and lift that morale.

“Everything went wrong against Guildford really.

“To be fair that’s probably the best performance we will come up against this season but we didn’t help ourselves.

“We had a powerplay in the second period and conceded a goal and you could see the lads’ heads drop.”

Lee Richardson, Raimonds Danilics and Aaron Nell all netted as Swindon - in a new-look purple kit showing the club’s support of the National Bullying Hotline - raced into a commanding lead.

But Sheffield came roaring back and hit the last of their five goals into an empty net as Wildcats attempted to take the game to overtime.

Aldridge added: “On Saturday night we played very well in the first period. We went 3-0 up and it was all offence but we just let it slip.

“You could see in the locker room afterwards that the lads had really let their head’s drop and I think that maybe carried over into tonight’s game.

“We needed to show character to bounce back and that was missing.

“None of the players really performed the way they can and now they really need to show some character so we can turn this run around.”
