Swindon ENL Wildcats extended their winning streak with a convincing 14-1 victory over the Lee Valley Lions at the Link Centre.

With the Lions icing a squad low on numbers it wasn’t long before Swindon broke the deadlock.

Defender Brian Clark linked with Ryan Burgess, who duly took his chance to put the home side ahead.

With chances few and far between for Lee Valley, Tyler grabbed a rare opportunity to fire past Elliot Folley.

The scores were not level for long with Burgess scoring his second with the assist going to Jamie Newton, and Josh Oliver extended the scoring moments later.

With the Wildcats dominating play and possession, the floodgates opened in the second period with nine unanswered goals.

Burgess completed his hat-trick shortly after the restart with a penalty shot. Josh Oliver and Grant Richardson added their names to the scoresheet before Newton scored the next three.

Further goals came from Daniel Smith and James Burnett, with Newton adding to the tally with his fourth of the game.

Holding a comfortable 12-1 lead into the third period, the Wildcats piled more misery on the Lions with two further goals from Sam Feeney and Josh Oliver.

The next home game is at the Link Centre on Sunday (face-off 6.30pm) against the Wightlink Tigers.

Meanwhile, Swindon Cubs moved joint top of the EIHA Under 10 South West League after beating former leaders Basingstoke 7-5 at the Link Centre.

Basingstoke scored first at 1:01, but three minutes later the Cubs hit back through Patrick Larkin, assisted by Jason Warren.

Swindon went ahead for the first time at 12:07 through Reed Sayers, assisted by Mason Lipsey, but Basingstoke then levelled.

The Hampshire side then took advantage of a Swindon penalty with a powerplay goal to go 3-2 up.

But Jason Warren ensured the first period ended even following an excellent feed by Larkin.

The sides exchanged further goals after the restart with Lipsey making it 4-4, assisted by James Davidson, after netminder Tyler Perre had earlier been beaten.

Although Basingstoke went ahead once more, they picked up four penalties in the rest of the game and Cubs made player advantage count.

Troy Deane bagged a goal with a terrific solo effort before Warren put Cubs in front at 56:46.

The hosts made sure of the win in the final stages as Lipsey scored his second, assisted by Sayers.

Man of the Match went to Corey Herbert and the Spirit of the Game award was given to Poppy Romback.

Coach Mark Perre said: “I would also like to say well done to the team. That's what I expect every time now.”
