SWINDON returned to winning ways as they came back from a 27-point deficit to win by a point against Witney.

The Greenbridge Road side went into the game having suffered back-to-back defeats, and were determined not to make it three as they scraped to a 31-30 win.

It started badly for Swindon as they conceded a penalty and a try in the opening minutes as they could not get out of their own half.

A penalty and two converted tries were also scored in the first 30 minutes as the hosts found themselves well adrift.

Swindon worked a way back into the game before half time, first with the pack driving over the line before a second try came in the dying seconds.

The second half opened with Swindon giving away a penalty and Henry Lamb converting, but after Adam Westall switched to fly half things started to switch for Swindon.

Swindon crept up to 30-19 behind through a try by Westall, who then Westall received a ball and ran through Witney line, two passes and Swindon were over for another converted try.

Swindon’s final try was scored by replacement centre Frazer Brown to secure the win and put them fifth in South West One East.

It was also a winning weekend for Swindon College Old Boys as they maintained their 100 per cent start to the Berks, Bucks & Oxon Premier DIvision season with a 29-5 win at Gosford All Blacks.

It was from a line out close to the Gosford line that the first score came, College driving over with James Murray touching down.

The score was mirrored in the second half when the pack dominated again, allowing Murray his second touchdown.

With the attacking platform supplied, the backs started to cut loose. Centre Liam Spillane cut through the midfield allowing a flowing move between forwards and backs, and the final touch came from scrum-half Michael Calvert.

The next try came from winger Charlie Grabe who outpaced the defence after being put away by centre Matt Allen. Grabe then converted his own try from out wide.

With the referee awarding a penalty to College 15 metres out, fly-half Ross Savile took a quick tap and barrelled over.

The only downside was when flanker Tom Birnie left the field with a serious knee injury which will sideline him for several games.
