SWINDON’S Connal Knott said his side let themselves down at the weekend as they let their opposition slip away from them at the top of the league.

The Greenbridge Road side suffered a 39-17 loss at Windsor, who had gone into the game just a point ahead of them in the South West One East league.

Knott got his name on the score-sheet but felt everyone in the team did not perform to the standards he knew they could and despite having the majority of the possession did not take their chances.

“We didn’t play well and everyone let themselves down really and we didn’t play to our full potential,” said Knott.

“We didn’t tackle well and were brushed off the tackle a lot which was disappointing.

“We had a few players missing, but that is no excuse because so did they and it was a great opportunity to beat them but we didn’t take it.

“I think we were fourth in the league going into the game and Windsor were third but now we have let them build a gap and Newbury also over took us which is disappointing.

“We had a lot of possession, in the second half I think we must have had about 95 per cent, but they were more clinical and when they had their chances they took them and that is what rugby is about.”

Swindon will now be able to rest, with no game this weekend, and get back players who were missing from Saturday’s match, including Mark Chatwin who has just become a father.

“We have got a week off now and we won’t be training this week and then we will be back to training next week,” added Knott.

“We then face Bletchley at home which is an important game.

“All home matches are important because if you can win those then anything you get away is a bonus.

“We will go back the drawing board but we will not keep thinking about this loss because then you won’t be in the right frame of mind for the next game.”
