SWINDON-BASED side the Silverbacks kicked off their summer sevens campaign by winning the Plate final at the Hartbury Sevens tournament.
The Silverbacks are an invitational team that represents Swindon-based company Silverback Sportswear, who are currently working with Swindon RFC, Tigersharks ASC, Swindon St George and Swindon Shock basketball.
Tom Mannion captains a side made up of players from around the South West, coached by Swindon chief Sean Lynn. Any proceeds won by the team are donated to the Prospect Hospice.
The team lost just one match at their first tournament together at Hartbury, being beaten by the eventual cup-winners, although had the consolation of lifting the Plate after a 47-0 win over the Roosters in the final.
Silverbacks have entries to four tournaments over the summer, the next of which is in Bournemouth this weekend.
Meanwhile, Swindon RFC will be hosting the Swindon Sevens festival for a third year.
This year’s competition will take place at Greenbridge Road on July18, with 16 teams competing for the £1,000 first prize.
Last year’s winners, the Ponty Butchers, are returning to defend their title.
Registration for teams is still open, although there are only a few spaces left. Any teams who are interested in taking part can find more information at www.swindon7s.co.uk
