ROYAL Wootton Bassett Colts A stretched their unbeaten run this season to six matches with a convincing 24-7 victory over Oxford Harlequins.

Bassett broke the deadlock on 20 minutes following a good interchange of passes before the ball was fed out wide to centre Elye Darragh who took it well and charged through for the try.

Straight from the kick-off the ball was collected by Dan Sweeney and he started a move back up the pitch that saw prop David Seru crash over to hand Bassett a 10-0 lead at the break.

Darragh bagged his second, and his team’s third, five minutes into the second half when he collected an over-top kick from Dan Sweeney, who then added the extras to make it 17-0.

Ten minutes later, Samuel Lacey noticed the Oxford team were slow to react and fed a quick penalty to Michael Roshier who took advantage to score under the posts, again converted by Sweeney.

With the final play, Oxford scored a consolation converted try.

Bassett Colts B were edged out by Devizes 18-12 in the quarter-finals of the Dorset and Wilts Cup.

Mark Roshier’s side took an early lead after 15 minutes through centre Josh Bowden who broke from the halfway for an unconverted try.

However, Devizes struck back almost immediately from a driving maul after winning a line-out to score converted try.

Bassett winger Harry Russ put his side back into the lead after 27 minutes. Captain Will Fieldsend added the conversion to make it 12-7.

But the visitors grabbed their second try of the game to send the two teams in level at the break.

Devizes struck two penalties after the interval to take an 18-12 lead before Bassett had a try ruled out at the death for a forward pass.
