A STERN word from head coach Sean Lynn proved the catalyst for Swindon to record a 24-11 win over Leighton Buzzard.

Despite a try from Toby Eaton, Swindon found themselves down 11-5 at the break at Greenbridge Road.

Lynn's troops came out better in the second half and Eaton completed his hat-trick to add to a try from Connal Knott to secure the win, with Leighton Buzzard’s number seven receiving a red card for a stamp on Swindon’s Tim Berry.

“It was a good convincing win at home,” said Knott.

"Leighton Buzzard are not a bad side. The first half; we didn’t play great and it was a bit sluggish and things weren’t going to plan.

“We were trying to get back in the rhythm of things but it wasn’t happening for us in the first half and at the break, we had a chat and Sean had a few stern words with us.

“In the second half, we performed really well and we started playing our patterns and cut out the silly mistakes.

“It is good for Sean to be critical because he knows how well we can play and we can go out there and prove him wrong or prove him right.

“In the second half, we played some outstanding rugby and dug deep."

The win is Swindon’s third in their last four outings and Knott believes they are finding their rhythm in a season that has been plagued by absentees.

“We had three wins on the bounce and then we went away to Salisbury, which is always a tough place to go, and got beat but came away from there with some really good points,” he added.

“This time, it did us the world of good having a break because there were a few players who had a few niggles and it is always nice to recharge the batteries.

“We went into last weekend’s game and had a really good feeling about it because we had a good team out.

“Because we hadn’t played for a fortnight, it was always going to be difficult for the first 10 or 20 minutes but in our case, it was the first 40 minutes that we didn’t play to our potential.

“The signs are there and we have got to keep improving as a team.”
