SWINDON College Old Boys continued their fine start to the Berks, Bucks & Oxon Premier season as they recorded a 46-5 win over Didcot on Saturday.

Tries from Bobby Tilling, Joe Smedley, Eoin Crean and two each from Tucker Blinkhorn and Charlie Grabe, as well as conversions from Florin Palcau and Grabe, ensured victory for Martin Lloyd’s side.

“We were good on Saturday. I’m not quite sure if Didcot had a full side out but we just took them to pieces really,” said Lloyd.

“They were good in the scrum, but that was their one potent thing they had on the field. We had the edge in the lineout and the breakdown area.

“We were always on the front foot, which was probably the difference between the two sides.

“It was a stronger performance than we’ve seen previously. We were very strong and one of the things we have been poor at is looking after the ball.

“That was something we actually did on Saturday far better than we did for the rest of the season, so once we got hold of the ball, we tended to keep it.

“We were a little bit more patient and we really reaped the benefits. We had some really good tries.”

Lloyd was also quick to praise the duo of Blinkhorn and Smedley after they both produced good displays.

“We had some great individual performances. Tucker (Blinkhorn) was almost unstoppable, he’s very strong which makes him a difficult guy to put down,” added Lloyd.

“He tends to take a few with him when he gets going and we had a good partnership in him and Bobby (Tilling), who are both hard runners.

“One person I put out on the wing who was outstanding was Joe (Smedley). He was in the heart of everything, he was there all the time.

“He never missed a single tackle, he was absolutely everywhere and in attack he scored a fantastic individual try.

“He got up in people’s faces when he was defending and when he got the ball in open field, he looked really good.”

Lloyd’s side are now the only team with a perfect record as they sit at the top of the table.

Elsewhere, in Dorset & Wilts One North, Supermarine lost away at Bradford on Avon 52-12.

The tries for Nigel Hire’s side came from Stuart Doughty, who crossed the line twice, while George Russ was able to register one conversion.

That result means Supermarine are now occupying 10th place in the table.
