SWINDON College Old Boys will have a clean bill of health as they bid for success in the Dorset & Wilts Senior Vase tomorrow.

Martin Lloyd’s side go into the final at Warminster against Weymouth & Portland (2pm) boasting a perfect start to their league campaign as well as a thumping 102-8 win over Phoenix last time out.

However, Lloyd is aware the opposition will be no pushovers having gone unbeaten in November.

“It’s going to be a tough game. They are well-drilled and wel-organised but we believe a lot of their strengths are in their continuity and backs,” said Lloyd.

“They have a strong scrum and Lewis Head, their prop, is a really big player who likes to carry the ball when he can. When their backs are moving, they’re a force too.

“They’ve beaten good sides this season so it should be a really tough game.

“We are hoping it will be a really competitive game because that is what our players need.”

Lloyd revealed that Terry Gibbs will be in contention following his strong debut performance at home to Phoenix last week.

Gibbs had been playing with the second team until last weekend’s emphatic victory and Lloyd is delighted with how College are building strength in depth.

He also heaped praise on the club’s medical team, who have been able to ensure Lloyd has a complete set of players to choose from, despite their long injury list earlier in the season.

“He (Gibbs) has played some rugby and he is going from strength to strength. He’s soaking up all the coaching and all of the training. He’s been a great addition,” added the Old Boys chief.

“One of the good things in the club is that we are starting to build some strength in depth so when players come in and out, we are starting to rotate. We are in a good strong place at the moment.

“The physio department have just pulled out wonders, really. They make sure they have good advice and making sure any injuries are dealt with really quickly. I can’t speak highly enough of them.”
