ROYAL Wootton Bassett head coach Alan Low is hopeful that a more consistent selection policy will result in his side returning to the form they started the season with.

Bassett put an end to a six-game run without a win when they beat Reading at Ballard’s Ash in their last outing, a little under two weeks ago.

Having started life in South West One East at a flying pace, they have dropped down the league of late as injuries have taken a severe toll on any momentum gained from the early stages.

Despite continuing to be ravaged by ailments, Chris Patterson the latest to head for the treatment room, Low has been able to pick a more consistent side of late and the return of Tim Gallimore to second team action last weekend will be music to his ears.

“All the games are important at the moment for us,” he said. “We want to be back up and competing. We are slowly getting everybody back to fitness, which is good to see.

“The injury curse struck again after Reading. Chris Patterson has damaged his fingers and detached a tendon, although he did complete the game.

“He is going to be missing for about six weeks. With him and Kyle Lovell missing, that leaves the back row a little bit light.

“Chris Roshier has been up from the twos consistently for the last six weeks or so and has done a fantastic job.

“Phil Bardwell has moved into the back row from hooker and done a great job.

“Those guys will still be there and I’m hoping Josh McCafferty won’t be too far off fitness-wise.”

Bassett travel to Reading Abbey tomorrow, a side they dispatched with ease in the reverse fixture in October.

However, Low is anticipating a closer contest than the 32-3 outcome last time out and says the performance from his side is as important as getting the result.

“You look at their results, their results at home have been quite strong,” he added.

“They have had a little blip at the moment but I am sure they will be looking at this game saying that we’re in the same position and they will be gunning for us.

“We’ve got some consistent selections at the moment, the guys are really picking up their patterns at the moment.

“Performances have been improving. If we can continue on that vein, that will be great. If we can get a positive result at the end of a decent performance, all the better.”

Elsewhere, Swindon will be looking to make it back-to-back victories when they travel to bottom side Reading.
