EDWARD Kennett believes his decision to double-up with Premier League side Berwick will help him maintain his superb form for the Robins this season.

The 26-year-old has begun life at the Abbey Stadium in style with a string of impressive displays in the Swindon middle order, but has opted to drop down into the second tier in a bid to spend more time on the bike.

The Bandits are without injured captain Ricky Ashworth who is still struggling following a concussion, and Kennett is looking forward to taking his place and reigniting Berwick’s title challenge.

“It was something I was looking to do at the start of the season but there wasn’t a team who could fit me into their averages really, and it will be good to get some more meetings,” he said.

“I love riding in Britain and it will be good to do more, and it should all keep me on the ball for the rest of the season and keep me nice and sharp.

“Berwick had a few injuries and are going through a bit of a bad patch, and they were looking for a rider and I was happy to go and cover for them as long as they could fit me in.

“We will see how it goes and hopefully we can get the team winning, and although it has been a few years since I was there I have always quite enjoyed it.”

With no fixture clashes at present, Kennett’s involvement with the Bandits will not see him miss any of the Robins’ meetings, which the Brit is pleased about.

“I have been lucky with it really, and one of the big things with it was when I spoke to Rosco and Gary I wanted to make sure there weren’t any clashes,” he said.

“There seem to be no meetings on the same day or anything like that, so I won’t be missing any Swindon meetings.”

Kennett was frustrated to see the Robins’ meeting with Belle Vue postponed yesterday afternoon, but believes the right decision was made.

“It was frustrating because I haven’t ridden for a week, but at least we didn’t get there and set everything up and get tyres changed and things like that,” he said.

“Speedway riders get very annoyed when that happens, so it was good they were able to call it off early.”
