SWINDON boss Alun Rossiter admitted two missed opportunities cost his side a memorable win at high-flying Wolverhampton last night.

The Robins would have gone top of the league had they triumphed at Monmore Green, but two 5-1s in heats 11 and 12 went awry.

And Rossiter felt that was what ultimately meant his side journeyed back to Wiltshire with one point instead of three.

“I am disappointed with the result but not the performance.

“I couldn’t fault the team whatsoever,” he said.

“Those two 5-1s would have wrapped the match up, simple as that.

“For Ashley (Birks) to lose it how he did and Nick (Morris) to turn a bit early when he was in a comfortable position and clip the fence, cost us.

“We went from a 5-1 to a 4-2 and a 5-1 to a 3-3, so that’s where we lost it, but really I couldn’t fault the effort.

“We were eight points down at one stage so it was a great comeback by the boys, they all rode their hearts out and there’s no complaints from me.

“It’s a little bit disappointing because we really feel we should have won.

“I think the riders will be pretty gutted with that, I think Hans is pretty upset that he didn’t quite make it in heat 15, but he was outstanding.

“Nick Morris was absolutely tremendous and a revelation. All of them, every single one of them.

“I felt a bit sorry for Kyle (Howarth) but he’ll get there. I’ve got plenty of faith in him and he’s got me more points than anyone anticipated.”
