SWINDON Robins captain Troy Batchelor is calling on the town to get behind the team as they look to overhaul an eight-point deficit and claim their place in the Elite League Grand Final.
Batchelor, who went into Monday’s meet fresh off the back of claiming the individual riders’ title at King’s Lynn, was pleased to come away from Coventry with everyone injury-free.
Nathan Greaves picked up a slight knock to his ankle but will be fit for Monday’s return leg at the Abbey Stadium where the Aussie rider is confident that the Robins will secure the points needed to progress and face either Poole Pirates or King’s Lynn.
“I think it was better than the last time we (went to Coventry) when I think we had about three 5-0s,” said the Robins skipper.
“We would have liked a few more points. We were kind of with them for a bit there but had a couple of races where a few people crashed.
“But overall, it could have been a lot worse and I’m pretty happy with how it’s gone.
“The track was pretty interesting and we’ve seen a lot of people crash, get in trouble, and things like that. I’m pretty happy that we’re all in one piece and on to Monday really.
“It was pretty difficult and a few of the guys got caught out on both sides but we would have liked a few more points for us. Going to Swindon with three or four (to make up) but eight points is definitely do-able.
“We’ve got a great track at home and as long as the weather’s all good, it should be all go.
“It’s going to be tough one – it always is – but I think we can do it, so get behind us.”
