SWINDON Robins ace Nick Morris is out to spring a few shocks at the Elite League Riders’ Championship today.

Morris will join Robins skipper and fellow Australian Troy Batchelor in the 16-strong field for the annual event, which is this year being held at Leicester.

Defending champion Batchelor looks the best bet if a Swindon rider is to pick up the trophy but Morris is hopeful of making his own mark against some of the league’s top stars.

“To get drawn into that meeting is really good for me and it’s great to be a part of that,” said Morris, who has returned to the Robins for a fourth season.

“It’s always a quality field and I’m just looking forward to getting up there and seeing what I can do.

“It’s always a good experience riding against those types of riders so I have got to look to make the most of that.

“We will just go there and give it my best shot. Hopefully I can get some starts and if I go as well as I can hopefully I can surprise a few people.

“It’s a good track and I’ve always enjoyed riding there. Hopefully I can make some good starts, ride well and progress through and just see where we end up.”

Morris has already enjoyed a promising start to the new season, having helped the Australia team triumph in the International challenge at the curtain-raising Ben Fund Bonanza at Swindon’s Abbey Stadium at the start of the month.

It was a double celebration for the 20-year-old ran as he also ran away with the individual honours after scoring 10 points at the charity contest.

Morris added: “It was a good start to the year and it was good to be back out there again.

“It was a good meet to be a part of and I was pleased with the way I rode. I’m looking forward to getting back out on the bike again now and carrying on from there.

“I haven’t done that much riding recently and any chance to get out onto the track will be good for me. I just can’t wait for the season to start now.”
