SWINDON Robins team manager Alun Rossiter has described Adrian Miedzinski’s injury as the worst he has seen in the sport and has cast doubts on whether the Polish rider will return from it.

The 29-year-old got his hand caught in the spokes of his back wheel while leading heat 13, bringing a premature end to the meeting with Troy Batchelor, concussion and shoulder, and Lewis Rose, ankle, having already been taken to Great Western Hospital.

Both Batchelor and Rose were released from hospital last night but Rossiter has concerns that Miedzinski, who requires an operation, may not return to the sport.

“Troy and Lewis were in reasonable sorts, Adrian was the one I was feeling worse for because his injuries were horrendous,” said Rossiter.

“Adrian was about five bikes in front of everybody and he just came in and seemed to lose it.

“He spun around and I think his hand came off the bike and then flicked it and it went into the back wheel.

“I have been around speedway for a while and I have not seen one like that, it was awful.

“I really couldn’t put a time frame on it and if I am honest I don’t know whether he will come back.

“I might be proved wrong and I hope I am proved wrong but looking at it it’s horrendous and that isn’t a five minute job.”

Rossiter has ruled out all three riders from making an appearance at the Abbey Stadium on Thursday night when the Robins play host to Lakeside Hammers and the return meeting in Essex on Friday night.

“I think Troy will be out for a week or so,” added Rossiter.

“He was struggling with his shoulder blade and when he left hospital he said he was going to go and get a second opinion today, but I think it is just muscle.

“Rose will be out for the two meetings with Lakeside as well because I am not rushing anybody back.

“There is nothing worse than riders riding half fit.

“The fans get frustrated and then you put a lot of pressure on your team-mates as well.”

The Abbey Stadium boss is already working on getting guests in and is confident he has a replacement for number one rider Miedzinski but has not revealed who that might be yet.

Last month Peter Kildemand was put on standby when there was the visa issue and Rossiter has not ruled out a return for last year’s number one, while Poole have also offered Swindon the use of any assets that aren’t currently riding in the country.

“I will be looking for some guests and I am confident of a replacement for Adrian until I know exactly what is going to happen with him,” said Rossiter.

“Hopefully I will have something in place by the end of today.

“He (Kildemand) is an option but I have got to make that phone call, so I am not going to be making any comments on that at the moment.”
