SWINDON Robins team manager Alun Rossiter will be looking to get over Monday night’s horror show as quickly as possible and will be hoping to start by getting a win against Lakeside Hammers.

Despite having to patch together a team, with Adrian Miedzinski, Troy Batchelor, Lewis Rose and Charles Wright all missing, Rossiter is confident he has brought in the replacements that are capable of getting Swindon’s season off the mark this evening.

Former Swindon riders Hans Andersen and Scott Nicholls have stepped in to fill the void of Miedzinski and Batchelor, with Lewis Blackbird replacing reserve Charles Wright, who is riding for Premier League club Somerset.

Lakeside, who had won two of their opening three meetings ahead of last night’s trip to Poole, will also have one change to their line-up, with Steve Boxhall coming in at reserve in place of Ashley Birks, who will be riding for parent club Sheffield.

“It is going to be tough but I am confident with the two boys that we have brought in, Scott and Hans, they will give it 110 per cent,” said Rossiter.

“I have got no issues on that score, hence why I picked them.

“To be fair, most riders always give it their best because they don’t go out there not to earn any money.

“It is going to be hard but we have got to move forward and be positive and get that first win under our belts.”

Lakeside started their season with a dominant 59-31 win over Leicester Lions, which saw Danish star Mikkel Bech score a paid maximum, before losing away to King’s Lynn Stars in their second meeting.

However, they avenged that defeat on Good Friday with a 51-39 win over the Norfolk outfit, with Richard Lawson scoring a paid maximum.

Rossiter is aware of the threat the new look side offer but thinks he saw enough from his own team on Monday night to be confident.

“Lakeside are going to be a lot stronger,” added the Robins boss, who has urged fans to be patient with his team.

“It is great to see (Lakeside’s captain) Andreas Jonsson back and they have got some good riders.

“I am confident though with our boys, Nick Morris and Kyle Howarth, the way they shaped up on Monday, they looked really good.

“It was always going to take time.

“The last couple of years we have kind of kept the basis of our team but we have had to change our team quite substantially this year.

“The guys are always going to take a little time to bed in.

“Zengota showed some glimpses and I am sure once he gets dialled into the track he will be pretty unbeatable around there.

“Even Adrian, he had a couple of drab first races and then he got a second and he was in front of Holder and Janowski by quite some way before he slipped off.

“The league wasn’t won or lost on Monday.

“Everybody wants us to win and I appreciate that but we will have a good team and I am confident everything will come together.”
