PETER Kildemand was happy to be back at the Abbey Stadium as he inspired Swindon Robins to a 48-42 victory over visiting Belle Vue Aces in the Elite League on Thursday.

Danish ace Kildemand was making his first Robins appearance of the season, having been drafted in by boss Alun Rossiter to replaced injured number one Adrian Miedzinksi, who has been laid up since the opening fixture of the season.

Having only left the Robins at the end of last season, Kildemand is no stranger to the track at Blunsdon and that was crucial against Belle Vue.

The 25-year-old made an instant impact upon his return, storming to victory in his first three races of the night and collecting 12 points from his five rides overall.

Success over the Aces continues the Robins’ recent resurgence and they have now won three meetings in a row and are now up to fifth in the Elite League table.

Kildemand said: “It is always good to come back and especially good for the team to have a win as well.

“It’s good to be back in Swindon. There are good guys here and a good atmosphere in the pits, so I really enjoyed it.

“The track was pretty much like I remember, maybe a bit slick but it was good.

“It’s been really good of late for us, we’ve got some confidence. We need to kick on now and make up some points on everybody.”

Kildemand’s return has not been as swift as the Robins had hoped, with the Dane being struck down by a knee injury after his comeback was first announced in early April.

The rider was fit to feature in last week’s 53-40 victory over Wolverhampton Wolves but an administrative error meant he was unable to take part.

Kildemand admitted that he was disappointed not to be able to be back in Robins colours sooner but was just glad that the problem has been resolved.

“I should have been here a long time ago but now I am here, it felt good,” said Kildemand, who added that he felt no adverse affects from his knee injury.

“Of course I was frustrated last week. It was all set up and everything was organised and I was actually on my way to the airport.

“Things happen like that sometimes and there’s nothing we can do about it now.

“The knee is okay, I didn’t have any problems with it. It’s not sore so that’s good, so I just need to train it and see how it goes.”

Swindon’s Elite League clash away at Coventry Bees was postponed last night because of the weather.

The Midlands club took an early decision to call off the fixture, with the Brandon Stadium track wet and further rain forecast, with a new date still to be arranged.

The Robins are next in action at Belle Vue on Monday evening.
