SWINDON Robins will go in search of a quickfire double over Belle Vue Aces this evening when they continue their Elite League campaign in Manchester.

Alun Rossiter’s troops claimed an impressive 48-42 success at the Abbey Stadium on Thursday night and battle is now set to resume at Kirkmanshulme Lane.

There is plenty of confidence in the Robins camp as last week’s victory was their third in a row, all of which have come at Blunsdon.

However, Rossiter admits extending that sequence in the Aces’ own back yard is a differently prospect entirely.

“Of course I’d take that scoreline again now if I could but we know that on their own track they are going to be very hard to beat,” said Rossiter.

“We have to go up there with confidence and we’re not just going to make the numbers up. We’re going to put down some real hard racing and see what we come back with.

“They are always difficult at home and they have got their own set-ups for that track which suits them best but we will just see what we can do.”

Thursday’s meeting was the first time the Robins had been able to field a full-strength line-up since the opening fixture of the season.

Peter Kildemand made an impressive return to Swindon colours at number one, while it was also a very good night for Nick Morris, Grzegorz Zengota and reserve Charles Wright.

“I thought Charles rode exceptionally well, Nick carried on his good form and Zengi did a really good job as well,” said Rossiter.

“Peter looked like he had never been away, he was very fast. He looked in control and had a big smile on his face in the pits.

“I just tell my riders to enjoy themselves on the track and I think on Thursday we saw what happens when they do that.”

The Robins are expected to again field a full-strength line-up in Manchester tonight, although that is dependent on the fitness of captain Troy Batchelor.

Australian ace Batchelor suffered a shoulder injury in the first Elite League meeting of the season and is only two fixtures into his comeback.

He was due to ride for Rybnik in Poland yesterday and Rossiter said if Batchelor does not report back in good health he may not be risked against Belle Vue.

“We’d like to think there’s some momentum with us at the moment and all the riders are riding well but the only concern is Troy,” added Rossiter.

“I know he had two lasts on Thursday but he also had two paid points. Hopefully the extra day off for the Coventry cancellation has helped him.

“I’ve just got to wait for that phone call and if he is not injured then we will ride him.

“When I know how he is I can make the decision but if he doesn’t think he is OK then we’ll have to look at doing something else.”
