ALUN Rossiter was frustrated that the Swindon Robins’ charge was halted by tonight’s Wolverhampton washout.

The in-form Robins have won six out of seven Elite League home meetings thus far this term and although they have yet to win away from the Abbey Stadium, victory on the road came agonisingly close during their two-point loss at the Belle Vue Aces last month.

Swindon manager Rossiter says that he ‘fancied his chances’ of guiding his team to a first away win of the campaign at the Wolverhampton Wolves this evening but the meeting was called off early this morning due to the forecasted heavy rain in the West Midlands.

With the Elite League now set to take a break for the Speedway World Cup, the Robins are not in action again until they host Belle Vue on June 18. After that, their only other fixture in June is a trip to the Leicester Lions on June 29.

“We were looking forward to going to Wolves. I fancied my chances a bit,” said Rossiter.

“They ride their own track well and it would have been difficult but I think they would have been fearing us coming there, that’s for sure.

“Our recent form has been fantastic and I was really happy with the performance against Coventry (a 47-43 win last week) because it was gritty and it showed fantastic character.

“It does mean that things are going to be stop-start now but that’s the way it is. People are still going to be riding for other teams, so they’ll be alright.”

Rossiter was planning on playing tinkerman at Monmore tonight, with number two Kyle Howarth swapping positions with Grzegroz Zengota in the number four slot.

Peter Kildemand was also set to make the final appearance of his brief return to the Robins at number one but his swansong has been curtailed.

The Swindon boss added: “It would have been interesting. It would have been good to see how Zengi reacted to riding in that position.”
