SWINDON Robins reserve Lewis Rose feels like he has been struck by a bus following his accident in Monday night’s win over Poole Pirates.

Rose was caught up in a final-bend collision with the safety fencing after he took evasive action to prevent him hitting Poole rider Paul Starke.

The 25-year-old ended up clipping the right thigh of Starke before getting his right wrist caught between the fence and his handlebars.

The Poole rider has thanked Rose for his quick reactions, but Robins team boss Alun Rossiter has said that they will not know the full extent of the injury until he has a second X-ray in just over a week’s time.

“Lewis is going to wait 10 days for the swelling to go down,” said Rossiter. “They couldn’t tell on Monday because the wrist was all swollen up, so he is going to go back and have another X-ray.

“There is no real damage to the shoulder, just a bit of tissue and muscle damage. He said he didn’t feel brilliant, he feels like he has been knocked over by a bus.

“It is a big blow for Lewis, because to be fair to him he was just starting to race again and it’s not been the easiest start for him. I am sure he is disappointed as well, because he was just starting to get his confidence back, with a new engine.

“He was in there racing again, where he has been struggling for speed.”

Starke wished Rose a speedy recovery after he was fortunate to escape with just a dead leg, his bike lifting coming out of the last corner of heat two.

“I’ve seen the replays and Lewis did really well to miss me so I’m really grateful to him for that,” Starke told the Bournemouth Daily Echo.

“He got hurt as a result and I wish him a speedy recovery. I caught Charles Wright’s back wheel and it sent my front wheel up and there was nothing I could do about it after that. Lewis did an amazing job of missing me. When I was on the track, I was waiting for someone to run me over. I don’t know how Lewis managed to miss me but he did.”
