SWINDON Robins captain Troy Batchelor says he is ‘in the right place’ after securing a third place finish at the Latvian Grand Prix.

The Aussie rider has endured a tough start to his 2015 campaign, crashing out of the opening race of the Elite League season against Poole.

He then fell twice in the abandoned GP at Warsaw before also ending his race in the back of an ambulance at his last GP appearance at Cardiff.

Add to that a bout of food poisoning and bike troubles, it is understandable the relief of the 27-year-old when he picked up his third place trophy in Daugavpils and 11 championship points along with it.

The meeting was curtailed after heat 20, due to heavy rain, handing the win to Poole Pirates captain Majiec Janowski, but three wins in his opening three races was enough to secure third spot for Batchelor.

He was only pipped to second place by triple world champion Nicki Pedersen after they tied on 11 points, with three wins and two third places apiece; however the Dane won their head-to-head battle in heat 16 to clinch second spot.

“What a way to come back from Cardiff,” said Batchelor.

“I went home in an ambulance and that wasn’t my night.

“Everything was going well in Cardiff before my crash.

“I feel I’m in the right place and it showed tonight. I had three good wins and some good speed.

“I tailed off a bit towards the end when the rain started coming, but it was a good GP.

“I’m probably going to spend tomorrow recovering. I’ll go home and have a few days’ rest, but everything is in the right place – we’ll just keep it there.”
