AARON Summers says that he has no doubt that he can handle the pressure of coming straight in as a key component of the Swindon Robins’ Elite League play-off push.

The 27-year-old was one of the multitude of shining lights in the Robins constellation as they eclipsed top-four rivals King’s Lynn Stars.

After getting off to an impressive start in Monday’s defeat at the Belle Vue Aces just a few days after replacing Eduard Krcmar as Swindon’s number two, the Australian marked his home debut with a fine 9+1 haul as the Robins dispatched the Stars, with Summers also handed a berth in heat 15 by team manager Alun Rossiter.

Summers says that he has no qualms bedding in to a new team at the business end of the season and thinks that he’s already proved that he won’t wilt under the weight of expectation.

“At this level you need to perform anyway. There is pressure but you need to handle that, which I know I can do, and last night proved that,” said Summers.

“In the first heat, I was a little off with the set-up but we had a little change and got a few race wins from there, which was great – I got called up for heat 15 too, which was really good.

“It’s awesome to get a few wins on your home debut and to get put in for that heat 15; I wasn’t quite expecting it but it was awesome to get the call-up and score some points in it as well.

“(Riding for Swindon) makes my schedule a bit more busy and the pressure’s on with us trying to get in the play-offs but I just want to do my best. Hopefully we make those play-offs.”

There will be no letting off the gas for Rossiter’s men as they make the trip to Coventry Bees tomorrow night (tapes-up 7.30pm).

The battle between the fast-track reserves could prove crucial, with the high-flying Bees boasting Jason Garrity and James Sarjeant whilst Swindon will be without Wright and Robert Branford.

Chief Rossiter will have Charles' brother James at his disposal and was due to search for a second guest today whilst Summers, who has previously featured for Coventry, reckons the slack will have to be picked up by the sharp end of the Robins line-up.

“I’ve done plenty of laps around there and know my way around it, so after (last night), hopefully I can do even better,” he said.

“I think we’re struggling a bit with reserves (tonight) but hopefully us boys in the top five can do the business and score the points.”
