SWINDON Robins rearranged meet at Poole Pirates tonight has been postponed due to the serious injury sustained by Robins number one and Poole asset Darcy Ward, as well as the wet weather.

Team boss Alun Rossiter feels there was no other choice as he sent his best wishes to the Australian star.

"It's devastating news, and speedway doesn't matter at the moment," he said.

"We've all been so focused on making the play-offs and winning meetings, then when something like this happens it just brings you back down to earth.

"None of that is important really.

"I think the meeting would have been off tonight anyway with the rain, but regardless of that don't think anyone would have felt like riding.

"Everyone is just thinking of Darcy and we are hoping he will be OK."

Poole owner Matt Ford told the club's website that with the focus of both teams elsewhere and the likelihood of less than favourable conditions he felt calling the meeting off was the right thing to do.

"All our thoughts and concerns right now are with Darcy and although the adage says the 'show must go on' I really don't feel that any of the riders are in the right frame of mind to go and perform," said Ford.

"The conditions were likely to be very tricky in any case with the weather forecast the way it is so I feel it is in the interests of all concerned to abandon our plans to stage tonight.

"I hope to be able to confirm later this morning a new staging date."

The Elite League match was originally set to take place last Wednesday but that too was washed out.
