FORMER world champion Sam Ermolenko will be launching a new speedway engine at Swindon's Abbey Farewell meeting on Sunday, October 11 (4pm).

The American legend has teamed up with Jawa to develop a new engine which will make its first public appearance in the UK at the Abbey.

The engines will be fitted in chassis supplied by the Revolution Speedway team to allow for a number of demonstration races .

"It will be good to introduce the product at Swindon on October 11, it's something we've been working on for a very long time so I'm looking forward to getting it out there," Ermolenko said.

"There isn't a specific placement for what we're introducing at Swindon, it's just coincidentally corresponds with the difficulties speedway has been having with regulation changes recently.

"With the new silencers and things like that there have been issues with bikes over the last couple of years, and it just so happens that the thing I've been working on will overcome those regulations and also solve the issues of cost.

"We've got an engine in which all the parts in the engine have to be replaced with the stock parts, so you can't really change anything.

"This engine produces really good power, enough for a beginner to get around the race track in relative comfort compared to the modern bikes which have become pretty hard to ride, so we are excited about it and looking forward to showing people what they do at Swindon."
