FORMER Swindon Robins number one Peter Kildemand has been named as one of the four permanent wild cards for the 2016 FIM Speedway Grand Prix series.

Danish ace Kildemand, who rejoined the Abbey Stadium outfit for a spell towards the end of the 2015 season, joins Jaroslaw Hampel, Andreas Jonsson and Antonio Lindback in the quarter named by the FIM Speedway Grand Prix Commission.

Kildemand said: “I’m really happy to get a wildcard, and I’m just pleased I’ll have the chance to finally be in the Grand Prix’s full time.

“I loved riding in the GPs I did this season and I was pleased with how things went, and after finishing a few of points off the top eight I’m relieved they’ve given me a wildcard.

“I’m really excited to see what I can do over a full season now. I’ve had a chance to see what it’s about and gain some experience this year, so now I’m looking forward to doing a full series.

“I’d like to think I can challenge for a medal. I know it will be tough, it’s a really high level with some great riders, but if I can carry on my form from this year then I think I’m capable of it.

“It’s a great opportunity to be a full-time GP rider and I’m just determined to make the most of it by having another good season.”

Kildemand narrowly missed out on qualifying automatically for next year’s series as he was pipped to the post by Poole Pirates' Chris Holder in the final 2015 round in Australia earlier this month.

He was first reserve in this year's championship, stepping in to replace two-time World Championship runner-up Hampel’, whose bid was ended after three rounds this season when he suffered a broken leg during the Speedway World Cup

Kildemand made a bold charge for the top-eight automatic qualification places, falling just three points short, despite racing three rounds less than Holder.

The quartet have been nominated to join the eight riders who finished in this season’s FIM Speedway World Championship top eight – Tai Woffinden, Greg Hancock, Nicki Pedersen, Niels-Kristian Iversen, Swindon Robins asset Jason Doyle, Matej Zagar, Maciej Janowski and Holder, with 2015 Robins skipper Troy Batchelor dropping out.

The top three from the 2015 GP Challenge at Polish track Rybnik on September 5 – Bartosz Zmarzlik, Piotr Pawlicki and Chris Harris – complete the field.

Swedish racer Fredrik Lindgren, Danish starlet Michael Jepsen Jensen and Czech hotshot Vaclav Milik have also been named as substitute riders.
