RETURNING Robin Justin Sedgmen admits Blunsdon fans did not see the best of him last time out, but now he is ready for the Elite League.

The 23-year-old last rode for the Robins in 2011 and also had stint in 2009, but things did not always go his way.

Like most speedway riders, Sedgmen is forthright with his opinions and that extends to his assessment of himself when he arrived in Swindon as a 16-year-old.

“I probably wasn’t ready to jump into it full time and get it feeling as good as what I would like to,” Sedgmen explains to the Advertiser.

“So I’ve taken a couple of steps back to go 10 steps forward.”

Those steps have seen Sedgmen establish himself as a force in the Premier League. Sedgmen has ridden for Somerset Rebels, Birmingham Brummies, Newport Wasps, Plymouth Devils and Redcar Bears, but has enjoyed the last two years with Edinburgh Monarchs.

At Armadale Stadium, Sedgmen and his teammates have become the first side in Premier League history to win back-to-back titles.

With that experience in-hand the Milduran feels ready to capitalise on his third shot at Swindon.

“I feel like I’m ready to come back home. I spent a lot of time in Swindon in my first few years, with Leigh Adams and Steve Johnstone both living there it was a nice set-up to be involved in,” he added.

“This is definitely my chance to establish myself in the Elite League. You can’t just let it happen, riding with Edinburgh it’s been great, I’ve learnt a lot and we’ve had a lot of success. We’ve made winning a habit.

“Hopefully I can bring a bit of that to Swindon and have it like Poole do now, they’re basically winning everything. You’ve just got to drum it into everyone’s heads, all the fans and management, that we’re a team that can be a force.

“For me it’s been a couple of hard years riding in the Premier League, just riding a lot and figuring things out. I’ve definitely figured out a lot of the bugs and got rid of them.

“I’m three years older now, I’m definitely a lot better as a rider. I’ve been working harder towards where I want to be.

“I’m going to be a lot fitter, my bikes are going to be a lot better and I’ll be putting in 110 per cent into everything I do.”

As for his aims for the 2016 season, Sedgmen is not being shy.

“I want to win the league with Swindon. I look at the clubs that win it every year and I think ‘Jeez, that must be a good feeling,” stated the Aussie. “I’d love to do that with Swindon’. I actually say that to myself quite regularly.”
